Red Cross Swimming Lessons
Red Cross Swimming Lessons are available each season through Delano Community Education. Please see below for some frequently asked questions.
To register, go to our Course Catalog and find Swimming Lessons under the Aquatics header.
Children may begin taking lessons at 18 months with an adult (Aqua Tots). When children are between the ages of 2-3, they may enroll in Tadpoles (with an adult). These classes are 30 minutes in length. Preschool classes are recommended for children 4+ years.
You child may be placed on a waitlist for a class because we keep a certain ratio of instructors to students. If needed, try selecting a different time slot for more availability.
The ratio varies by level. For Preschool A, B, C, Level 1, 2 the instructor to student ratio is 1:6. For Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 the ratio is 1:8. Please keep in mind that some classes may have more/less students where another instructor or aide will be assisting.
From the High School Doors: Enter the main high school doors, take a right, go past the TAC front desk, head straight down the hall and take your first right after the cafeteria and the pool is hallway down hall on your right hand side (please enter through the locker room doors).
From door #5: Head in through the old game entrance and the locker rooms are to your right.
From the Middle School Doors: Enter the main middle school doors; take a left past the middle school office, head down the hall and the locker room doors are on your left hand side.
We prefer that parents/caregivers stay in the pool area during class in case children need help in the restroom or other assistance.
Any students that are not participating in swimming lessons are to be supervised at ALL times. This means no loitering in the hallways, locker rooms, or running on the pool deck.
Proper swim attire
Pool diaper, if necessary
Goggles are recommended for levels 3 and up
Long hair should be pulled back and band aides/bobby pins should be removed
Please inform your instructor. There is no make-up day for missed classes.
All of the skill levels have a specific curriculum developed by the Red Cross. Once a child masters the curriculum at their level, they are recommended to move up to the next level. Red Cross cards and certificates will be handed out after each session with a suggested level to register for future. *Note: Many children need to take classes more than 1 time to pass with the strength and endurance necessary for the next level.
Yes, private lessons are available to children and adults of all abilities. Please contact Community Education for more information and availability.
